Glossary
All termsActorA ready-made scraper on Apify’s marketplace, usually built and maintained by an independent developer. Quality, price and upkeep vary from one Actor to the next, so check its rating and recent run success before relying on it.Audience credibilityAn estimate of how many of a creator’s followers are real, active people rather than bots or inactive accounts. Each influencer database calculates it its own way, so scores from different tools aren’t directly comparable.Brand safetyChecking that a creator’s past content won’t embarrass a brand, such as offensive language, controversial topics or deals with competitors. Enterprise influencer platforms often flag this automatically.Business DiscoveryA Graph API feature that returns public stats and recent posts for another Instagram business or creator account. It needs a connected business account of your own and doesn’t cover personal accounts.Cost per 1,000The price of 1,000 results or requests. It’s the simplest way to compare APIs that bill per call, per record or in credits.CreditsPrepaid units spent on API calls or profile unlocks. Some providers let them roll over indefinitely; others expire them at the end of a billing period, which changes what each call really costs.Data freshnessHow recently the data was collected. Live APIs fetch from the platform when you ask; databases and datasets serve figures gathered earlier, sometimes days or weeks before.EndpointA single URL in an API that returns one kind of data, such as a profile, a post or a list of comments. Providers often quote how many they have, but what each one returns matters more than the count.Engagement rateInteractions on a post, such as likes, comments, shares and saves, as a share of followers or reach. Tools use different formulas, so only compare rates that come from the same source.EnrichmentAdding data to a record you already have, for example turning a creator’s handle into follower counts, contact details and audience demographics.Follower listThe accounts that follow a profile. Few APIs return them: they’re costly to collect and more sensitive under privacy law than public profile stats.Graph APIMeta’s official API for Instagram business and creator accounts. It gives full data on accounts that authorise your app, and limited public data on other business accounts through Business Discovery.Live APIAn API that fetches data from the platform at the moment you call it, rather than serving it from a stored database.Lookalike searchFinding creators similar to one you already know, by audience, content or style. Most influencer databases offer it, and results depend on how each tool defines “similar”.MCP serverA connector that lets AI assistants and agents call a service’s tools directly, using the Model Context Protocol.Pay as you goPaying only for the requests you make, with no monthly plan. Usually sold as top-ups of prepaid credit.QuotaThe daily allowance of units the YouTube Data API gives each project, 10,000 by default. Every call costs a set number of units, and searches cost far more than simple lookups.Rate limitThe number of requests an API or platform allows in a period, such as per second or per day. Going over it usually returns errors until the window resets.Research APITikTok’s official API for academic and non-profit research. Access is by application, and it can’t be used for commercial work.Residential proxyAn IP address from a home internet connection, which sites find harder to block than a data-centre address. Scraping services route requests through large pools of them.Semantic searchSearching by meaning rather than exact keywords: describing the creators you want in plain language and getting back accounts whose content matches.Sponsor segmentThe part of a YouTube video where the creator promotes a sponsor. YouTube sponsorship tools detect these to show which brands pay which channels.Success rateThe share of requests that come back complete and correct. A response can be technically successful but missing fields, and that shouldn’t count as a success.
