The short version
Pick it if
- You need X data at volume and the official API’s $5 per 1,000 posts is out of reach
- You pull follower lists or profiles in bulk
- You want trends, keyword pushes or account monitoring as well as reads
Skip it if
- Your legal or procurement team needs a sanctioned source or a known company
- You want a read-only API with nothing that touches an X account
- You poll keywords that usually return nothing
twitterapi.io is an unofficial, pay-per-result API for X. It needs no X developer account, charges $0.15 per 1,000 tweets on pay-as-you-go, and drops to $0.01 per 1,000 followers when you page 200 at a time. About 75 endpoints cover search with X’s operators, replies, quotes, timelines, followers, lists, communities, Spaces and trends, plus webhook and WebSocket pushes for keyword rules and monitored accounts.
That combination of price and breadth is why it leads our X ranking. What holds it back is the company. It’s run by Prism Digital, LLC in Delaware, the domain dates from December 2024, and no team or funding is published. It also sells login, posting, like, follow and DM endpoints that act through your own X account, while its terms say it provides no data that requires authentication. Use it for reads, and keep the write endpoints away from any account you care about.

Pricing
Prepaid credits, where $1 buys 100,000. Tweets cost 15 credits each, profiles 18, and every call costs at least 15 credits even when it returns nothing. Subscriptions add a same-month bonus and a monthly return on the past 12 months’ spend. The effective rates below assume the returns keep arriving and, as the vendor itself notes, that you use every bonus credit within its 31 days.

Using twitterapi.io
Signing up
Sign in with Google and you get a key straight away, with $1 of credit and no card after an invisible bot check. It’s one free grant per person or network; repeat sign-ups from the same network within 30 days get $0.10. Until you pay, the account is held to one request every five seconds. Any payment lifts that to 20 a second.
Making a request
Plain HTTP against api.twitterapi.io, with your key in an x-api-key header. Responses are synchronous JSON with camelCase fields and cursor pagination. There’s no SDK. Over-limit calls return a 429 with no Retry-After header, so write your own backoff.
Documentation
docs.twitterapi.io is a Swagger-style reference with a Postman collection and code snippets, plus llms.txt files and an MCP server for AI agents. The site contradicts itself in places: the homepage promises 1,000 requests a second, while the rate-limit page tops out at 500, and it says both “100x” and about 33× cheaper than the official API. At $0.15 against $5.00 per 1,000 posts, 33× is right.
Support
The vendor says live chat runs 24/7. Trustpilot reviewers mostly praise fast replies, though one says support stopped answering.
Verdict
The best X data API for most developers. Nobody else on our list is as cheap per tweet or per follower, no other third party covers as much of X, and the free dollar of credit makes it easy to try. Treat it as a supplier you might have to replace: there’s little public detail about the company, and its write endpoints put the X account you connect at risk. If you only read and want a simpler bill, SocialData is the safer pick. If you need sanctioned access, pay for the X API.

Questions
Is twitterapi.io legit?
It’s a real, paid service with a 4.6 rating from 32 Trustpilot reviews. It’s also young and thinly documented as a company: Prism Digital, LLC in Delaware, a domain registered in December 2024, and no published team or funding. We found no lawsuits naming it.
Is twitterapi.io affiliated with X?
No. It describes itself as an independent third-party service, not affiliated with or endorsed by X Corp, and it needs no X developer account.
How much does twitterapi.io cost?
$0.15 per 1,000 tweets and $0.18 per 1,000 single profiles on pay-as-you-go. Bulk follower pages fall to $0.01 per 1,000. Every call costs at least $0.00015, including empty ones. Subscriptions from $29 to $1,499 a month add bonus credits.
Does twitterapi.io have a free tier?
New accounts get $1 of credit with no card, which buys about 6,600 tweets. It expires after 31 days, and until you pay you’re limited to one request every five seconds.
Is it safe to use twitterapi.io’s posting and DM endpoints?
We’d avoid them on any account you care about. They act through your own logged-in X account, and its terms say it provides no data that requires authentication, which doesn’t match what it sells. Reads don’t involve your account.
twitterapi.io or SocialData?
twitterapi.io for the lower price, bulk follower pulls, trends and writes. SocialData if you want a read-only API where failed requests are free and every docs page shows its price.
