Which Social API

Bright Data vs ScrapeCreators

The big enterprise data company against the small developer API. Both scrape public Instagram data for a dollar or two per 1,000; they differ on depth, billing and who they’re built for. ScrapeCreators covers more of Instagram and is cheaper at volume; Bright Data is the one to take through procurement for bulk collection.

The quick answer

For most developers, ScrapeCreators. It covers more of Instagram, with 20 endpoints including hashtag, keyword and reel search, highlights and transcripts, none of which Bright Data sells. Calls are instant, credits never expire, and at volume it’s cheaper: $0.99 per 1,000 on its $497 pack against Bright Data’s $1.30 on a $499-a-month plan.

Bright Data wins when the buyer is a large company. It beat Meta in court in 2024 over logged-off scraping of public data, it’s built for bulk async jobs delivered to a webhook or S3, and its records are wide, with 40 fields per post. If procurement wants a contract, an SLA and a name it knows, it’s the easier sign-off. Just know that it has no search, stories or follower lists.

If you’re building on the API

Bright Data is built around jobs. Each scraper has a dataset ID; you either call it synchronously or trigger a job, poll a snapshot and download the result as JSON, NDJSON or CSV, or have it delivered to a webhook or S3. It collects by URL, or discovers posts and reels from a profile with date filters. There’s a Python SDK and an MCP server.

ScrapeCreators is synchronous only: one request, JSON back, with the credits charged in the response. That’s simpler to drop into an app, and there’s no account-level rate cap (it advises staying under 500 concurrent requests). There’s no official SDK, but there’s an MCP server, a CLI and an OpenAPI spec.

Where each falls short

Bright Data

Four Instagram scrapers and nothing else: no hashtag or keyword search, no stories, no follower lists and no transcripts. Records that fail because the input was wrong are still billed, despite the “pay only for success” line. Every call needs a dataset ID, and the async flow is a lot of machinery for a single lookup. Trustpilot reviewers in late 2026 complain about an AI bot in front of the support queue.

ScrapeCreators

No live stories or follower lists either, so neither is the answer for those. It’s a small, founder-led team with no SOC 2, and since June 2026 it stores API responses on its side, which a procurement review will ask about. Comments with replies cost 15 credits and it expects about 90% success on them, and in October 2026 it changed Instagram error responses without notice before apologising.

Questions

Is Bright Data or ScrapeCreators better for Instagram?

ScrapeCreators for most developers: more endpoints, instant calls, and cheaper at volume. Bright Data for large companies collecting in bulk that need a contract and async delivery.

Which is cheaper?

Bright Data at the start ($1.50 per 1,000 records against $1.88 per 1,000 calls), ScrapeCreators at volume ($0.99 against $1.30). For posts the gap widens, because Bright Data bills every post as a record while ScrapeCreators bills per call.

Is it legal to scrape Instagram with Bright Data?

In January 2024 a US court ruled that Meta’s terms didn’t stop Bright Data scraping public data while logged off, and Meta later dropped the case. That ruling only covers Meta’s terms and logged-off scraping. It’s a strong signal, not legal advice for your use.

Does either have Instagram hashtag search?

ScrapeCreators does, along with keyword, profile, reel and audio search. Bright Data has no hashtag or keyword discovery for Instagram.
