The short version
Pick it if
- You’re collecting in bulk from profiles and posts you already know
- Legal or procurement wants a big vendor with a court record and an enterprise contract
- You want async jobs delivered to a webhook or S3, or pre-collected datasets
Skip it if
- You need search, follower lists or Instagram stories
- You’re building quick lookups into an app
- X is your main platform
Bright Data started as a proxy network and now sells ready-made scrapers for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X, plus pre-collected datasets. Every social scraper bills the same way, $1.50 per 1,000 records pay as you go or $1.30 on the $499-a-month Scale plan, and runs through the same sync or async flow. It also beat Meta in court in January 2024 over logged-off scraping of public data, and X’s case against it ended in a settlement in 2025 after its main claims were thrown out. No other vendor here is as easy to get past a legal team.
What it sells is narrower than its size suggests. There’s no Instagram hashtag or keyword search, no X keyword search, no Instagram stories and no follower lists on any platform. It suits teams that already know which accounts they want and need a lot of them. That’s why it ranks second on Instagram, fourth on YouTube and across platforms, fifth on TikTok and seventh on X.

Pricing
The Scraper API charges the same per record on every social platform, where a record is one profile, post, reel or comment. Bright Data says you “pay only for success”, but its docs add that records which fail because the input was incorrect are still billed. Promotions come and go, including a 25% discount code and a doubled first deposit, so check before you pay.

Using Bright Data
Signing up
The free tier needs no card and gives you 5,000 records a month, shared with Bright Data’s unblocking, search and browser products. Some Trustpilot reviewers in late 2026 report rejected verification checks and access blocked without notice, though most of those reviews are about its proxies rather than the scrapers.
Making a request
Authenticate with an API key as a Bearer token, and pass the dataset_id of the scraper you want with every call. You either send URLs to collect, or a keyword, profile or search URL for Bright Data to discover records from. Small jobs return JSON in one synchronous call. Larger ones are triggered, polled by snapshot ID and downloaded, or delivered to a webhook or S3, with up to 5,000 URLs per request (vendor says). The Python SDK wraps this as client.scrape.instagram.profiles(url=…).
Documentation
Thorough and machine-readable: an llms.txt file, a published input and output schema for every scraper, and pages on limits and error codes. Records are flat and wide, at 25 to 50 fields each. Because the docs cover every Bright Data product, finding the social scrapers takes some digging.
Support
Bright Data says support runs 24/7, with an account manager on Enterprise. Older Trustpilot reviews praise fast, knowledgeable staff; reviews from September and October 2026 complain about an AI bot gatekeeping the ticket queue and tickets going unanswered.
Verdict
Bright Data is the one to pick when the job is bulk collection from accounts you already know and someone in legal has to sign off. One price on every platform, async delivery to S3, datasets and a court win over Meta make it the safe enterprise choice. It isn’t the best API for most developers. It can’t search Instagram or X, has no follower lists anywhere, and bills you for records that fail on bad input. Start with ScrapeCreators for discovery or anything inside an app, and Apify if you want no-code runs on every platform.

Questions
Is it legal to scrape Instagram with Bright Data?
In January 2024 a US federal court ruled that Meta’s terms didn’t bar Bright Data from scraping public Facebook and Instagram data while logged off, and Meta then dropped its remaining claim. Most commentators note the result turned on the wording of Meta’s terms at the time. Privacy law such as GDPR still applies to personal data.
What happened with X’s lawsuit against Bright Data?
A judge dismissed X’s claims over scraping and selling public posts in May 2024. Narrower claims about server access were allowed to go ahead later that year, and the two sides reported a settlement in June 2025. The terms aren’t public.
Does Bright Data have a free tier?
Yes. You get 5,000 records a month with no card, but the allowance is shared with Bright Data’s other products, such as its unblocker and search API.
How much does Bright Data cost per 1,000 profiles?
$1.50 per 1,000 records pay as you go, or $1.30 on the $499-a-month Scale plan, which includes 384,000 records. One profile, post, reel or comment counts as one record. Pre-collected datasets start at $250 for 100,000 records.
Can Bright Data get Instagram followers or hashtag posts?
No. Its Instagram scrapers cover profiles, posts, reels and comments only, with no hashtag or keyword search, stories or follower lists. ScrapeCreators has search, and HikerAPI and Apify’s third-party scrapers have follower lists.
Bright Data or Apify?
Bright Data if you want one price and one format across platforms for bulk jobs under a contract. Apify if you want more data types, including follower lists, and no-code scheduling, and you’re willing to vet each scraper.
